Godzilla Is Now Officially Tokyo’s Tourism Ambassador

Godzilla2

(PCM) Japan’s favorite fire-breathing irradiated monster, Godzilla, has been appointed as an official tourism ambassador for the Shinjuku ward in Tokyo. No longer is Godzilla something to be feared in Tokyo, as they would rather you look at Godzilla as a welcoming sign in the country.

The Shinjuku ward is home to many down-home bars and noodle houses in the city. To mark the occasion a giant-sized Godzilla head was unveiled at the office of Toho, the Japanese studio behind the original 1954 film. The head is said to be huge and towers about 171 feet off the ground.

There has also been news that Toho plans to shoot another Godzilla film that will be released sometime next year. Prior to this film the studio took a bit of a hiatus, as they have not made a new Godzilla film since 2004.  The new Toho film will definitely be released before the upcoming Gareth Edwards sequel which is slated for release sometime in 2018.

Over the years, Godzilla has demolished Tokyo Tower, Rainbow Bridge, the Parliament building and several castles in Japan, as well as Golden Gate Bridge and other chunks of San Francisco in the Hollywood version.

Shinjuku ward has not been spared, flattened in three Toho movies. If Godzilla chooses to return, it can now stomp on its own giant head. It is a long held belief that any area Godzilla destroys on film will be sure to prosper and the character is without a doubt one of Japan’s pride and joy.
