Andy was best known as a comedian, an actor, an Elvis impersonator, a hoaxer, a Foreign Man (from Caspiar), and c-list lounge singer Tony Clifton, among others.

He wasn’t a serial dater, although he did date Cindy Willams (Shirley from Lavern and Shirley) and comedienne Elayne Boosler.

Debby Harry (Blondie) told me she considered him a friend as well, but didn’t elaborate. They debuted together on Broadway in ‘Teaneck Tanzi,’ a very short lived show about wrestling, years before the era of Hulk Hogan and the WWF (now WWE).

Andy sometimes opened for himself as Tony Clifton, who was jealous of Andy’s success, and made that fact very clear to both the audience and in interviews. Tony was once booked as a guest on ‘Taxi,’ and caused a scene, getting booted off set. Producers James L. Brooks and Stan Daniels later released a statement that said that although Clifton was “no longer welcome on the set”, his friend Andy Kaufman would continue in his role as Latka.

It could be said that he invented the art of Elvis Impersonation, and the King was quoted as saying that Andy was his favorite. His character of Latka Gravas, on TV’s Taxi, was based on his Foreign Man. When on the road, people most knew him for his Latka role, and would often heckle him when he wasn’t in that character. Every comedian has a response for hecklers -  his was reading The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald to the audience aloud.

Andy was also the self-proclaimed “Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion of the World,” offering women $1000 if they could pin him. Although there were several draws, he kept his title. He befriended pro wrestler Jerry Lawler, and they feuded on television and in areas throughout the country. At one point Jerry may or may not have broken Andy’s neck (on David Letterman). Andy wore the neck brace for nearly a year after that incident. It was probably painful, but not as severe as it was claimed.

Andy was also the subject of the song “Man On The Moon’ by R.E.M.

Comic Relief was started in the UK, in 1985. Comic Relief USA was started in Andy’s honor, in 1986.

Andy found he had lung cancer in late 1983, and died on May 16, 1984. Or did he?

He did discuss faking his death with friend and sometimes partner Bob Zmuda. He was 35 when he died, and he made no secret about the sudden cancer. In many ways it was a perfect setup for a fake death, and Andy was the perfect celebrity to do it.

About three years before his death, in 1981, Kaufman met with professional hoaxer  Alan Abel, who himself successfully faked his own death – in 1979.  Abel staged his own death from a heart attack near the Sundance Ski Lodge.  Abel’s stunt was so believable it earned him an obituary in the ‘paper of record’ New York Times. Abel also started the Society for Indecency to Naked Animals (SINA), his most famous hoax. SINA’s mission was to clothe naked animals throughout the world.

At the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, Abel introduced a campaign to ban all breastfeeding because “it is an incestuous relationship between mother and baby that manifests an oral addiction leading youngsters to smoke, drink and even becoming anti-social.”

The owner of AndyKaufmanLives.com is Stephen Maddox of Greenwood, Indiana and more than one reporter thinks he may be more than a ‘relative’ of Andy.

Kaufman’s brother, Michael Kaufman, he admitted that he didn’t always know when his brother was acting even in some of his most bizarre skits. ‘One time I told him not to let me know what was really going on, because when people asked me questions I didn’t want to lie to them,’ he told VICE Magazine in 2012.

Is Andy alive? Probably not. If he is, his reintroduction will be the single greatest performance art of all time.

John Landis claims he originally had the movie idea as a fifteen year old, in 1965, but the film has never actually been made. He has said that he purposely referenced his unmade film, “See You Next Wednesday” several times in his feature films.

Mr. Landis used the song twice in The Blues Brothers. It was played in the driving-through-the-mall scene as well as the elevator music while the brothers were going up to pay the tax bill for the school.
It is also played, alarmingly loud, in an elevator in Amazon Women on the Moon (1987).

Hugh Grant says “See You Next Wednesday” quite pointedly as he ushers somebody into a car, in the movie “About A Boy”.

NASA scientists have calculated the orbit of 2012 DA14, and they say claim are very sure the 150 foot asteroid will miss Earth. They point out that there are dust-sized pieces of debris plowing harmlessly into the atmosphere all the time; we see some of them as shooting stars at night.

Impacts like the one that may have wiped out the dinosaurs, some 65 million years ago, are separated by tens of millions of years. That event was tens of millions of years ago.

“But it has happened and it can happen again,” said Humberto Campins of the University of Central Florida. “So as a species it is important we learn all we can about asteroids in case we have to deflect one. And there are other reasons for us to investigate. Asteroids could provide precious resources both to Earth and to space travelers, and they hold secrets to how our planet and life on it formed.”

IN 1908, a 330-foot meteor exploded in the atmosphere above the Tunguska River in Siberia, with an impact 1,000 times more powerful than the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima. The force was enough to destroy an area the size of San Francisco. Of course, that’s just a theory. Others believe it was scientist/tinkerer/genius Nikola Tesla’s Wardenclyffe Tower experiment gone wrong.

“Once we find an asteroid,” Edward T. Lu, a physicist and former astronaut who flew two space shuttle missions and spent six months on the International Space Station, said “it is possible for us to predict its trajectory. We know the government wants to discover asteroids big enough to wipe out the planet, but we also want to find those that could wipe out a city the size of New York, or Hong Kong, or Houston.”

“For every one we know about, there are about 100 more we don’t know about,” Lu said. “We have to find the other 99.”

(PCM) Completed in 1546, the “Kindlifresserbrunnen” is a fountain in Bern, Switzerland. Translated, the name means “Fountain of the Eater of Little Children”. For nearly 500 years the fountain has been a reminder for the children of Bern to behave, in particular around Switzerland’s Fastnacht, or ”Night of Fasting” festival, during the week after ash Wednesday. One is his mouth, one tied to his belt, and more to be consumed in a bag by his side.

Of course, there are other theories – a caricature of the jealous older brother of Duke Berchtold, who founded Bern in 1211. Perhaps he represented the Titan Kronos, (also the father of Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter, and Hera) who ate his other children so they could never take his throne. Zeus, obviously won his battle with his father as evidenced in films like Wrath of the Titans.

Theory number four was that he represented the Jews, who also wore pointy hats at that time. This is the least unlikely scenario, as it neither served well as a ‘keep away’ sign for the Jewish people, nor in any way clearly a reference to “blood libel” – a ridiculous accusation that people of the Jewish faith of eating Christian babies and using the blood of other Christians to make matzo.

“Pushed on the subway track, this man is about to die.”

The New York Post got a lot criticism after it published a front-page, sensationalized photo of a man, pushed onto the subway tracks in Midtown on Monday December 3rd, trying to climb to safety before being fatally struck by an oncoming train.

Ki Suk Han, a 58-year-old from Queens, N.Y., was hurled from the 49th Street station platform onto the tracks by “a deranged man” just after noon. Han was attempting to calm the man, apparently a panhandler, when a scuffle broke out, police say. The man then pushed him onto the tracks.

Witnesses told police the man had been harassing people on the platform. ”At least one witness felt that the aggressor was emotionally disturbed,” NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told The New York Times. “Onlookers screamed, shouted and frantically waved their hands and bags in a bid to get the downtown Q train to stop,” according to the Post.

30-year-old Naeem Davis was taken into custody on Tuesday after investigators saw him (or a man fitting his description) on a security video near street vendors near Rockefeller Center. On Wednesday, he was arrested on a charge of murder.

Umar Abbasi, a freelance Post photographer, was among those waiting on the platform wehn he took the picture. He said he tried to alert the train’s conductor with his camera. ”I just started running, running, hoping that the driver could see my flash,” Abbasi told the tabloid. Abbasi did manage to snap the photo that the Post later put on its cover.

“People were shouting and yelling when it happened,” Dr. Laura Kaplan, another witness, said. “But then people ran the other way.”

The first observations of this particular shower occurred in the 1830s, so they are a fairly recent celestial event, only 160 years old. The average rate of meteor fall is around 40 per hour, but in recent years it has been closer to 80, even 120 in an hour. They are ‘slow’ moving, and tend to have a yellow hue in their trails.

There will be a ‘new moon’, meaning that the moon (and its light) will not be visible for this event. The best viewing hours are typically 1:00 am through 3:00 am, and the further you are from ‘light pollution’ the better the view. Get away from the glow of city lights and toward the constellation from which the meteors will appear to fall from for the best view.

There may also be a new, coinciding event with debris from a comet named Wirtanen, found in 1948. Scientists do not expect a world-wide catastrophe as presented in 1984’s film, ‘Night of the Comet’, about a pair of Valley Girls (played by Catherine Mary Stewart & Kelli Maroney) who survive in a world of zombies, produced by falling red dust from the comet, from Wirtanen’s debris.

In China, a woman known only as Ms. Lee, went to China’s Changsha Central Hospital  after complaining about itching in her ear. To all surprise and horror, X-rays revealed that a spider had been living in her ear canal for up to 5 DAYS!

Ms. Lee said that she was recently renovating a new home, and had fallen asleep. When she awoke, she started to feel the itching. Although it is extremely rare for spiders to crawl into ear canals, it does make some sense for why it could happen. Philip Koehler, an entomology professor at the University of Florida said that “The insects are probably entering the canal as harborage, for heat, and/or for moisture.” In other words, it is instinctual, this could happen to you. Surround yourself in a ring of flames before you sleep, and duct tape your ears shut.

The spider was flushed out with a saline solution because doctors feared if they tried using tools, it would just burrow deeper into the woman’s ear, or worse, the barbs on its legs would damage her inner ear.

Ms. Lee was reportedly so relieved the spider was out that she broke down in tears! Wouldn’t you?

What Do The Jelly Sex Bracelet Colors Mean?

(PCM) Many people have inquired about the latest fad supposedly going on in in colleges, high schools, even middle schools!

This story has been going around since 2003, thanks to some rumours in Marion County, Florida , and periodically re-discovered by school principals, local communities, civic organizations and even some churches, giving some busybodies something new to worry about.

Jelly Bracelets!

Those jelly ‘sex bracelets’ from the 1980′s are still being used today, but they have a completely different purpose than when Cyndi Lauper and Madonna wore them.

This new social phenomenon involves “snapping” the bracelet off the wearer, the game is called ‘SNAP!” of course – enabling the snapper to earn a sexual favor from the snappee based on the color of the snapped off bracelet. It seems to be an off-shoot of a phenomenon from the 70s and 80s when a guy (or girl) could get a sexual prize for successfully peeling off a beer label, without tearing it.

Our own informal questioning of a few dozen high school and college students indicated that none of them had participated in the practice, and noone even knew anyone else who did.

The colors each have a coded meaning as follows:

• Yellow - indicates the wearer is willing to HUG
• Pink – indicates the wearer is willing to give a hickey
• Orange – indicates the wearer is willing to KISS
• Purple – indicates the wearer is willing to kiss a partner of either sex
• Red – indicates the wearer is willing to perform a LAP DANCE
• Green – indicates that ORAL SEX can be performed on a girl
• Clear - indicates a willingness to do “whatever the snapper wants”
• Blue – indicates ORAL SEX performed on a guy
• Black – indicates that the wearer will have regular “missionary” sex
• White - indicates the wearer will “FLASH” what they have
• Glittery Yellow - indicates HUGGING and KISSING is acceptable
• Glittery Pink – willing to “flash” (show) a body part
• Glittery Purple – wearer is willing to French (open mouth) kiss
• Glittery Blue – wearer is willing to perform anal sex
• Glittery Green – indicates that the wearer is willing to “69″ (mutual oral sex)

Excluding those who have killed over a million people, here are a list of the top thirteen most infamously egotistical people throughout history.

Billy the Kid-Known far and wide as the bad boy of the west, William H. Bonney, more commonly known as Billy the Kid, has truly become a legend. Allegedly having killed 21 men (though historians believe the actual numbers to be anywhere between four and nine), Billy was one of the key players in the Lincoln County War. In an attempt to avenge the murder of John Tunstall, Billy the Kid and his friends formed the Regulators, a group who set out to hunt down Tunstall’s killers. Despite being known as a friendly and nice guy to those he wasn’t trying to fight, Billy the Kid was one of the most lethal men in the west and has truly made a name for himself in history.

Elizabeth Báthory-Often seen as the female counterpart to Vlad the Impaler, Elizabeth Báthory certainly is up there on the infamously egotistical list. Having lived in 17th Century Hungary, Elizabeth or the Blood Countess as she is better known, had allegedly killed up 650 girls in her court. Her reason for killing them? To bathe in their blood and preserve her youth. However, Elizabeth’s ego was certainly her downfall as she was sentenced to life in prison for her crimes.

John Wilkes Booth-John Wilkes Booth was a man so blinded by his own ego, he carried out out the murder of President Lincoln. A famous stage actor, John Wilkes Booth was something of a heart throb with his dashing good looks and charisma on stage. Booth however, wanted to be remembered as more than an actor in history. In an effort to become the hero of his beloved South, after they lost the Civil War, Booth and friends conspired to shoot down some of the Union’s most important political officials, including President Lincoln. While Lincoln was attending the theatre in a private booth, Booth snuck up and killed him by shooting him point blank in the head. Despite not becoming a heroic legend, like Booth had hoped, Booth maintains a role in history as one of America’s prominent villains.

Benedict Arnold-Known as history’s greatest back stabber, Benedict Arnold’s name is synonymous with traitor. Benedict Arnold was originally an American general during the Revolutionary War who maintained a correspondence with British troops throughout a majority of the war. At one instance, Arnold was caught plotting to surrender West Point to the British army, a city of which the Americans had given Arnold command of. Arnold’s reasoning behind his betrayal of West Point appears to have been initiated by the American officials taking too long to give him control of West Point.

Jesse James-Jesse James is truly a man whose ego truly was his downfall. Having become a legend of the Wild West, James was a notorious bank robber, train robber, and murderer and one of the prominent members of the James-Younger gang. Having been Confederate soldiers in the Civil War, James and his brothers were some of the most brutal soldiers to have ever walked the fifty states, committing horrible atrocities. James’ own gang member killed him in an attempt to get the reward money for James.

Jack the Ripper-One of the world’s most famous serial killers, and we don’t even know his real name. Jack the Ripper swept the streets of 19th Century London, targeting and murdering various prostitutes throughout London. Earning the name Jack the Ripper after leaving notes for the police about his murders (notes which many believed were the work of journalists to bring attention to the case), Jack’s true identity and motives remain unclear. Most suspect that Jack was anything from a common low-life to a renown surgeon. Whatever the case, Jack the Ripper’s story lives on.

Marie Antoinette- Most famous for her saying, “Let them eat cake”, Marie Antoinette was a pariah of 18th century French society. Having come to France from Austria, Marie Antoinette was the wife of King Louis XVI of France. Known in popular culture as being rather ditsy with an impeccable fashion sense, Marie Antoinette was truly the life of the party in France. However, as a ruler, Marie Antoinette and her husband often left a lot to be desired. When presented with the issue that her people were starving in the street and had no bread, she couldn’t understand why they could not eat cake instead. Eventually, both she and her husband were tried and executed, though Marie Antoinette’s legacy remains as one of the most silly and snobby rulers of all time.

Haman-Haman is one of the most villainous and egotistical men in Jewish tradition. According to legend, Haman was so disgruntled with the  Jewish people’s “lack of respect” towards him, he and his wife planned on wiping out the entire population of Jewish people. However, the heroic Queen Esther stopped Haman in his tracks and sentenced he and his ten sons to death.

John Mayer-Perhaps one of the self-centered guys in Hollywood, John Mayer is known for his bad boy behavior in Hollywood as a ladies man and all around jerk. Having come onto the music scene with his cool attitude and thoughtful lyrics, Mayer soon abandoned his public image of sensitive guitarist with his relationships with stars Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Simpson, and Taylor Swift among countless others, often sharing very intimate details about their private lives with anyone would who would listen. And the worst of it is? He doesn’t understand what he did wrong. Mayer reportedly was very offended when his most recent ex, Taylor Swift, released the song “Dear John” which was allegedly about him. “Pretty Boy” Floyd-A gangster during the Great Depression, Charles Arthur Floyd, best known as “Pretty Boy” Floyd is one of America’s most famous outlaws. Having participated in the Kansas City massacre, as well as a series of robberies within the Midwest, Floyd wasn’t happy with the nickname the public gave him, thinking it was embarrassing. Floyd was eventually gunned down by policemen. His funeral was attended by almost 40,000 people, and Floyd has been romanticized throughout the years, having songs written about him and bands named after him.

Lizzie Borden-Everyone’s heard of Lizzie Borden, who allegedly gave her father and stepmother forty whacks with an ax. Borden and her older sister Emma lived with her father and stepmother in a state of tension. Lizzie and her stepmother, Abby Gray, had a falling out that was so bad, Lizzie began calling her “Mrs. Borden” as opposed to mother. In 1892, both Lizzie’s stepmother and father were found by the family maid after having been brutally murdered with an ax. Though Lizzie was tried for the crime and eventually acquitted, her parents murder had some hauntingly familiar elements; a few years prior, Borden’s father killed her pet pigeons by cutting off their heads with an ax. Borden and her sister lived out the rest of their lives in relative normalcy, dying within days of each other.

Robert Stroud-Robert Stroud, better known as the Birdman of Alcatraz, said that he himself was the most famous man in the world. After committing multiple murders and crimes, both in and out of prison, Stroud was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in Acatraz prison, in San Francisco Bay. While in Leavenworth prison, Stroud found a love for birds so strong, he began breeding and selling them from his prison cell. Penning two books about birds, as well as finding a cure for one of birds many ailments, Stroud soon found himself transferred to Alcatraz where pets were not allowed. Stroud often claimed that the day he died, all the headlines would be talking about him. He died the day before John F. Kennedy was assassinated, not even getting a mention in any major newspaper.

Joe Francis-Everyone knows about the Girls Gone Wild series, whether they want to know about it or not, and Joe Francis is the one deserving of all the credit. Francis often goes into clubs, parties, and other locations where drinks are served and films girls going wild. Francis, in order to get the perfect shot for the fans of his series, allegedly often hires girls to go and act wild first, hoping the other girls will follow their example and appear on screen. However, these first hired girls are never on camera, according to reports. Francis has attempted to refurbish his bad reputation by working with charity; he donated money from sales of his Mardi Gras tapes to the Red Cross in order to aid Hurricane Katrina victims.
