(PCM) A company called Boston Dynamics is currently creating some of the world’s most advance robots, especially their Atlas robot, which can complete a multitude of tasks including walking on uneven snowy ground, as well as, picking up and putting away various size boxes.
The company has released a YouTube video that shows the Atlas robot in action and it is definitely looking incredibly advanced. The company says that the Atlas robot was created to function outdoors, but it also has the ability to complete indoor tasks as well! The robot is equipped with sensors that allow it to keep its’ balance, as the video shows it wobbling a bit on the snow terrain but balancing to keep itself from falling.
The video also shows the robot staying on it’s task of picking up a box despite human interaction, even when it is pushed down by a person it gets itself right back up and continues with the task at hand. The Atlas robot is 5’9″ and weighs 180 pounds and Boston Dynamics says “It is electrically powered and hydraulically actuated. It uses sensors in its body and legs to balance and LIDAR and stereo sensors in its head to avoid obstacles, assess the terrain, help with navigation and manipulate objects.”
Can you just picture a futuristic society with a bunch of these things walking around? Little bit scary and definitely straight out of science fiction!
