(PCM) If you can recall back in 2015 as the story of a Westfield, New Jersey family went viral after they received threatening letters from an individual known as “The Watcher”. The letters began only a few days after the family, Derek and Maria Broaddus and their young children, purchased and moved into a stunning $1.3 million dollar home back in 2014.
Almost immediately the family began receiving ominous and threatening letters from someone who only identified themselves as “The Watcher”. For example, a few of the more sinister quotes from the letters read:
“[The house] has been the subject of my family for decades. I have be [sic] put in charge of watching and waiting for its second coming. My grandfather watched in the 1920s and my father watched it in the 1960s. It is now my time.”
“Do you need to fill the house with the young blood I requested? Have you found all the secrets it holds. Will the young bloods play in the basement. Who has the bedrooms facing the street? I will know as soon as you move in.”
“Have they found what is in the walls yet? In time they will.”
“I am pleased to know your names now, and the name of the young blood you have brought to me.”
Of course the family moved out of the home very quickly after the letters began, however they were still tied up with their investments in the property. The even went as far as to sue the previous homeowners for failure to disclose information regarding “The Watcher” and his threats.
The family did find a very brave tenant, who goes by the name of Chris, to rent out the house who doesn’t seem all the concerned about “The Watcher”, however after almost two years of relative silence “The Watcher” has now returned with more letters. Police have yet to identify “The Watcher” but are definitely still currently investigating the situation. The story even went as far as to capture the attention of Hollywood and the story of the Broaddus family’s plight was turned into a feature film back in 2016!
Sources claim that the latest batch of letters contain more specific threats and is more “derogatory and sinister” than the letters in the past. The owners of the home are still tied up in court with the previous owners and it seems as if “The Watcher” is making a return because the family revealed a plan to want to demolish the home and subdivide the land into two additional properties.
The obviously would anger “The Watcher” and he warned in a letter for them not to follow through with the plan. The town of Westfield has denied the family’s plan to demolish the home and neighbors have banned together against the idea as well. Not really sure why the neighbor’s would want this “horror house” to continue to stand, as if I thought “The Watcher” was any where near our neighborhood, we would want this home gone as soon as possible. Maybe they are just worried about “The Watcher’s” revenge or retaliation. Either way, scary stuff!
