(PCM) The headline above may sound like some sort of April Fool’s prank, however it is no joke and a Pennsylvania woman is mourning the loss of her beloved husband of 46 years.
74-year old minister Stephen Woytack was kneeling down to place some flowers on the grave of his mother-in-law located in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Thoop, PA, when suddenly her 300 + lb headstone came toppling down on top of him.
Woytack was pinned fatally beneath the extremely heavy granite slab. Woytack’s wife Lucy, who is still understandably in shock, said that everything happened very quickly. She sought assistance from the cemetery caretaker, but by the time help arrived it was already too late.
The caretaker called the accident “heartbreaking” and claims it was freak occurrence. The coroner goes on to explain that warmer weather in the area may have made the grounds, monument and it’s base unstable causing it to come crashing down.
Woytack was said to have hung a cross on the on the headstone in preparation for Easter just before it toppled over, killing him in the process.
Such a tragic accident and our sincere condolences go out to the Woytack family.
