(PCM) A New York man who has been battling leukemia since 2002 has officially been granted permission and had his name legally changed to Darth Vader after his favorite Star Wars character. The 43-year old former Marine, who is currently raising funds online for a bone marrow transplant, completed the official name change last year leaving his previous name Eric Welsh somewhere in a galaxy far, far away!
The man now known as Darth Vader claims that he grew up in the state’s foster system and had no real ties to his previous name. He claims that he chose to be named after the infamous Star Wars villain because to him the character of Darth Vader represents an “aura of leadership and toughness”. Vader is a regular competitor in various strength and endurance marathons.
The New York Department of Motor Vehicles spokesperson did confirm that Darth Vader is indeed the mans legal name!
