(PCM) Yet again, a story that has been circulating on social media has been proven to be a hoax. This time it is the story of the Gemma Sheridan, the British woman, who claims she was shipwrecked on a deserted island for seven years and rescued after some kid in Minnesota discovered her S.O.S. sign on Google Earth.
This story is 100% false! It has been debunked by the website WafflesAtNoon and they found several key factors within the story that just don’t add up!
First off, the story claims that the woman crafted a huge S.O.S. sign out of available materials “I had a sign on the beach that was about 10 feet high, but it had sat there all this time and nothing came of it. So I decided to go all out, I spent the next few weeks clearing space and finding materials to build a huge sign in the sand on the beach.”
There was a photo of the alleged S.O.S. sign that accompanied the story, however in reality that photo just so happens to be a cropped photo that was originally posted back in 2010 amidst reports of destruction in Kyrgyzstan during heavy violence in the region. The un-cropped version of the photo reveals several buildings to be shown in the background.
News-Hound.org, the website that initially published the alleged story reveals no sources on the piece and also has been known in the past to publish some fairly absurd news items since they first popped up on the net back in January of this year.
Also, a slew of eagle-eyed people took note of the fact that many sections of the story were plagiarized word for word from the true story of Ed Stafford who spent 60 days trapped on a deserted island in the Pacific.
If this story were to be believed there would have surely been additional reports from other news sources, the savior in Minnesota is never named and it would have been all over television news with reporters seeking interviews and such as well!
