(PCM) In news that sounds as if it were taken straight from the pages of a science fiction novel, Amazon has revealed that they are currently working on a drone-based delivery service called Prime Air.
While the company is still working on the technicalities of such an operation, the plan would be that Prime Air would be able to have the products ordered in the hands of consumers within a half-hour of them clicking the “buy” button. They are optimistic that this technology could be ready for use within the next 4 to 5 years.
The project does require quite a bit of testing, especially due to safety concerns and they are still awaiting FAA approval. The drones would be able to carry and deliver items that are up to five pounds in weight, which CEO Jeff Benzos claims accounts for about 86% of the items Amazon currently delivers.
