(PCM) One oddly unique New Mexico couple could be facing potential jail time for their love affair. Why would that be? Well, because the pair just happen to be mother and son. Yes, you read that correctly! 36-year old Monica Mares recently reunited with her long-lost son 19-year old Caleb Peterson who she gave up for adoption at birth. The pair linked up via Facebook and then upon first meeting, they promptly fell in love.
When speaking with the Daily Mail, Mares commented, “He is the love of my life and I don’t want to lose him. My kids love him, my whole family does. Nothing can come between us not courts, or jail, nothing…. I have to be with him. When I get out of prison I will move out of Clovis to a state that allows us to be together.”
Peterson adds that the two became an item when “We were hanging out just talking and I looked at her and she looked at me and I kissed her. It was a real kiss it had feelings behind it, there was a spark that ever since then it just stayed. Honestly I never thought we would get into trouble for our relationship. We were both consenting adults – when it comes down to it.”
The mother/son couple decided to go public with their story to bring awareness to Genetic Sexual Attraction (GSA) relationships. We are not even sure we knew this type of situation needed awareness, however one thing to keep in mind is that incestuous relationships are still very much illegal in all 50 states of the U.S. Mares and Peterson each face up to 18 months in jail and a $5,000 fine if convicted on indecency charges.
Mares, who has nine other children in addition to Peterson, claims that she is willing to give up having a relationship with her other children in order to maintain her romantic entanglement with Peterson. Currently, due to a court order put in place, Mares is to have no contact with Peterson or her other children at this time.
Mares claims that she will endure what she has to in order to be with Peterson saying “It is every bit worth it. If they lock me up for love then they lock me up. There is no way anybody could pull us apart, and I really do love him.” Peterson echos her sentiments saying “In two years time I can see us living together happily living our lives. True love can do anything.”
The whole situation is pretty darn disturbing! The court system is having some problems with the case as they are trying to prove that Peterson is a victim rather than a defendant.
