(PCM) Pop Culture Madness was lucky enough to be invited to a party at the Explorers Club. The party was hosted by Freeform the network formally known as ABC Family. The party was during NYCC 2016, and was a way to promote Beyond, a new show being released by Freeform early in 2017.
Beyond will be released on Freeform on January 2, 2017. The show will follow Holden a young boy who is now a young man after he wakes up after a 12-year coma, and discovers new abilities that propel him into the middle of a dangerous conspiracy. Freeform were amazing hosts and we got to see first-hand what the show was all about. The show is definitely an homage to Sci-Fi movies from the 1980s. If you like early movies directed by Steven Spielberg, you will like this show.
After talking to the actors and producers of the show who were all very nice, we were gracefully given a tour of The Explorers Club. The Explorers Club was founded in New York City in 1904. The club is an international multidisciplinary professional society dedicated to the advancement of field research and the ideal and that is vital to preserve the instinct to explore. A colleague and I were given a tour of their headquarters which is located at 46 East 70th Street in New York City.
The building the Explorers Club resides in used to be the home of Stephen C. Clark. Mr. Clark was the grandson of Edward Clark a founding member of Singer Sewing Machine Company. The Explorers Club has 26 in the United States and around the world. Many chapters hold monthly dinners, lectures, and seminars, award field-research grants to students, publish newsletters, and organize expeditions, field trips, and educational events.
The tour we took was very informative and fun. I’m very thankful too Freeform for inviting us. For more information on the Explorers Club be sure to visit their website: https://explorers.org/.
